Portfolio: Spirit Resourcing
Spirit Resourcing is an English recruitment company for the Regeneration and Housing sectors, and they needed a new website. They found their partner in the London based Alkaline Studios.
About the spiritresourcing.com redesign
I created a lot of new functionality and added a brand new registration process. The new website also got a clear new look, provided by Sean Patterson from Alkaline Studios, which is much better than the previous baby-blue and yellow design.
I also made sure I created a website that is as accessible as possible for people with (visual) impairments, because Spirit Resourcing has a special program for job seekers with disabilities.

About the old version
Spirit wanted to be able to manage their vacancies online, and let registered candidates select those jobs they like.
Sean from Alkaline asked me to make the interactive functionality for this website. (Want to know why?) And I was just waiting for a new and exciting project. I was provided with a design template for the new website and a short description of all functionalities to make. So for me this was a rather easy assignment, since I only has to make the pages, apply the functionality, and add the design by use of CSS.
Techniques and Advanced Features
I used some real nice techniques and scripts on this website:
- For the titles of the pages I used sIFR. This is a Javascript that replaces the titles (heading 2) with a Flash 'movie', where you can use any font we want.
- I no longer used one file for each page, but one file for all pages. That file handles the requested page, which are all fully customisable.
- Not a real new feature, but a real improved one: the admin section. It is as simple as always, and offers all the functionality you can wish.
- Visitor friendliness: Spirit, candidates and clients all receive e-mails when important changes have been applied. Here you can think of registration, submitting a vacancy, applying for a job, etc.
- More use of Javascript on the vacancies page, where you can browse without reloading the page every time.
- And of course it is completely according to standards like XHTML, CSS and Javascript.
